Suki Amano grew up in a broken family that consisted of herself, her mother (Hana Amano), and her elder brother (Yuto Amano).Hana did her best to support them by working two jobs, but things became exceedingly difficult after Yuto turned to alcoholism (the same illness that took their father). It had become routine for Yuto to become violent and argumentative. One night, all that pent-up rage and aggression came to a boil. Young Suki woke up to the sounds of her brother and mother arguing along with a few other sounds that hinted at the gravity of the situation. By the time she got to them, her mother was already unconscious. Suki reacted emotionally and began screaming at her brother, which only provoked him.The aftermath damaged Suki forever.Suki woke up hours later in the hospital, with her mother sitting by her side in tears. Hana apologized over and over, but when Suki tried to reassure her, the words never came. The doctor concluded that her lack of speech was due to severe trauma that was dealt to her throat and that she should be able to regain her voice with time.That time never came. . .
. POST TRAUMATIC SENSORY DISORDER . Months after the incident, Suki's injuries were fully healed. However, she was still considered mute. Many studies were conducted and it was concluded that her muteness was not due to injury, but rather it was psychological. Hers became the first case of what was later dubbed "Post Traumatic Sensory Disorder." A sub-branch of standard PTSD that affects a person's senses. Someone with this disorder may experience temporary or permanent loss of hearing, taste, sight, or sound. With so little known about this disorder, it's uncertain whether or not Suki will ever regain her speech again.. THE PRESENT . Twelve years later, Suki Amano is a graduate of a small university in Osaka, Japan. She'd obtained a bachelor's degree in Japanese with a minor in English. It felt like the closest way she could ever get to using words of her own. She's now fluent in Universal Sign Language (DISCLAIMER: USL only exists in Suki's verse to include everyone who might be able to use it).During her studies, she fell in love with photography ― a whole new way to express herself. Despite completing her courses, she decided to pursue this passion, so that she might share her words with the world through still images.. PERSONALITY . Since the events of the past, Suki has become a lot more reserved and shy around people, especially strangers. However, it's not difficult to earn her trust, and she remains friendly and optimistic despite her situation. She believes in giving everyone a fair chance but isn't afraid to shut herself away from anyone deemed unsafe or malevolent.
